How many 1/2 marathons do you run per year?

Last year ('08) I did my first (and also did around 30 races in the 5k-10k range) For 09 I'm hoping to do one or two. Will start with the 3M in Austin, but since I've really been in the holiday spirit instead of training I'm doing it as part of a relay team

I don't actually run (yet!), but I walked the Myrtle Beach Half Marathon this weekend. I've decided I want to do a race in each of the 50 states and plan to aim for 2 races per year. I have my eyes on a half marathon near Atlanta on Halloween that I might go for.

Congrats, Surfie! I have thought about a race in every state too - not necessarily a 1/2 marathon, but an organized race. Who knows, it's a long term goal that may be fun to accomplish.

Along those lines, there's a site called Half2Run.com (I believe) where runners can sign up and log their progress -- the goal is to run half marathons in half of the states (so, 25 half-marathons). Interesting idea, and probably one I should incorporate into HalfMarathons.Net -- I've toyed around with the idea of making it possible for users to upload their training & race stories. What do you think?

For what it's worth, I personally like the idea a lot.

Thanks for letting us know about that other site. That sounds like a great idea - even 25 states is a huge accomplishment! I would love to see something like that added to this site as well. ChiTownMike, I was thinking the same thing about just making it ANY organized race, not necessarily a half marathon. Especially when I get to where I can actually run a respectable distance. I can just imagine how proud I'm going to be when I can run a 5K (or even a 1 mile fun run )!

Its unlikely I'll ever get to as far as a half-marathon in half the states, but so far I've raced in NY,NJ,PA,TN,TX,FL,VA, and Netherlands Antilles :-)

That's very cool, GFASTR, especially the race in the Netherlands Antilles. So far, I've only raced in Illinois, but I plan on expanding that list quite a bit starting this summer.

I wonder if I can count both NA and French West Indies I've run the St Maarten Around-the-Island Relay twice. The first time my segment was on the French side, and last year it was on the Dutch side. There are also two segments where you actually run in both countries and cross the border

Heck yeah, you can count them both, I would. It sounds cooler that way.

Hey, I love your question! I posted my story about my injury under the injury topic, but the year I did my 1st half, my 1st full and my first 2 triathlons (all in the same year), I just LOVED the half marathons, so I kept going and did 6 halfs last year! So I started the Fifty States HALF Marathon Club. Grant it I'm comining up on 40 this upcoming year, and I have a long way to go to reach 50, but heck, I'm going to be one of those 80 year olds crossing that finish line I hope anyway , and I know I'll finish way before that! We'll get'r done! We also added a 100 half anywhere challenge where you can try to go for 100 total (not state specific). I plan to reach that also! Happy Running! Kind regards, Nicole Blomgren - Fifty States HALF Marathon Club www.halfmarathonclub.com

It sounds pretty cool and would be a heck of an accomplishment, that's for sure.
