I'm sure there are many folks in Los Angeles disappointed that there won't be a City of Angels Half Marathon this December, but the race organizers announced yesterday that they're moving the race to the fall and re-naming it the Rock & Roll Los Angeles Half Marathon, as the race was purchased by the organization that puts on the many other Rock & Roll-themed races around the U.S.

More in the press release at the race website, at http://cityofangelshalf.com/

To help us connect with users on different social networks, I created this week a page for us on Facebook, which you all can access here:

http://www.facebook.com/halfmarathons.net

Right now I'm adding site and race news, but I plan to let it evolve and foster conversation among runners and those of us taking part in races around the country, and hopefully bring more conversation back to this board.

Enjoy,
TJ

Great find, ChiTownMike! I'll add this to the main site as soon as possible.

Maybe I'm missing it on the main page, but here's another Chicago HM you may want to add.

Here is a new half-marathon in the Chicago area that isn't listed on the main page.  The Schaumburg Half-Marathon Turkey Trot, to be run on 11/28/09, looks interesting and fun.  Unfortunately, I won't be able to run it because I'll be out of town, but for those looking for a late fall HM, here's your chance:

Now that sounds pretty cool.  I like races that are different and running over the salt flats is a neat idea.

Great review, austinite.  Congrats on a great race.  It's interesting that you didn't have any trouble with the elevation change.  That's encouraging and important if I ever decide to go out there and run.

Take Half Off the Myrtle Beach Mini Marathon

By Giselle Domdom
Active.com

The Myrtle Beach Mini Marathon is making a splash on the South Carolina coast next fall.

Registration opens on October 23, 2009 at 6 a.m. ET. Sign up early and you could get in for half off the half marathon price. Regular fees are $60 for the event, but the first 200 registrants will get in for only $30. Fees will be $36 for the next 200 participants and $42 for the remainder of the opening registration week, ending at midnight on October 29.

Take advantage of the registration deals to experience the heart of South Carolina's Grand Stand at the inaugural Myrtle Beach Mini Marathon Weekend. Whether you're looking for a destination race or want to see South Carolina in a new way, this race is the event for you.

More than 6,000 runners and walkers are expected to flock to the South Carolina coast to participate in the Myrtle Beach Mini Marathon Weekend from October 22-24, 2010. Weekend goers can enjoy the white, sandy beaches and boardwalk of this coastal resort city for the perfect fall getaway.

"This is a key vacation destination in the U.S., and there really is no better way to showcase the city than with a walking or running tour through the area's highlights," said Robert Pozo, the race's founder and director. "Finishing on the newly built, paved boardwalk will give runners a feeling of paradise."

The half marathon course starts at Freestyle Music Park and continues around Coastal Grande, Grissom Parkway and Broadway at the Beach before heading east toward the ocean. Racers will head south on Ocean Boulevard and enter the south side of Myrtle Beach's boardwalk, finishing at Plyler Park. The Myrtle Beach Mini Marathon will be the first major event hosted on the brand new boardwalk, to be completed in June 2010.

In addition to the main half marathon event, there will also be a two-day health and fitness expo, a coastal 5K, a one-mile doggie dash and an 80-meter high heel run. The doggie dash and high heel run will both benefit the local Grand Strand Humane Society.

Race information for the Myrtle Beach Mini Marathon, organized by Continental Event and Sports Management Group LLC, can be found at www.runmyrtlebeach.com.

Many of you already have your Road ID, but for those that don't and need some incentive to place an order, here's a promo code that is good until November 10, 2009 for 10% off:

I haven't heard of Zooma before, but after reading those reviews, I'll make sure to avoid any of their races for sure.  Thanks, guys.
